Six Sisters Deli Calls It Quits

Six Sisters Deli & Grille has joined the many restaurants that shut down in 2022. The Eagle Mountain restaurant spent 7 1/2 years in business, and its fans reacted with dismay to the announcement on social media. Sadly, since it’s already closed for good, there’s no chance to come one last time for a bacon cheeseburger or the best-selling Desperado sandwich.

Last spring, I wrote about Six Sisters in a GastronomicSLC.com article about how restaurants were paring down their menus due to higher food costs, ingredient shortages and staffing issues. Owner Monica Rogers told me how they had pared down their menu three times between March 2020 and March 2022. She talked about successfully navigating the Covid shut-down with take-out and delivery options. And she advised restaurateurs to drop menu items that weren’t popular and profitable.

Somehow, things changed between then and now, and Six Sisters has joined Les Madeleines, Hector’s, Morelia, El Matador in Ogden, and other restaurants that shut down this year.

Here’s a copy of the Facebook post on Six Sisters’ page announcing the closure, and ending with a plea to support local businesses:

“Right now I feel like Indiana Jones, at the end of my rope over a pit of vipers…snakes, why’d it have to be snakes?!

Life can be funny at times, sometimes, HAHA, sometimes HMMMM.

Six Sisters Deli & Grille recently made the decision to close our original location in preparation to move to a newly built space just across the parking lot. We have been so excited about the opportunity to grow here in our home town.

That was the plan.

What’s the thing about making plans… the best made plans often go awry.

Due to some new life complications, triple food costs, labor, and everything else we are challenged by in these times, we made the heartbreaking decision to hang up our aprons, close the door, and retire permanently.

Although we were told the space was cursed, we can’t help to feel quite the opposite! The past 7 and 1/2 years have been filled with so much more than burgers, sandwiches, and Dole whips. It’s always been about the people! About all of you. The stories and relationships have taught us all so much! We have had fantastic employees and customers and we will be forever grateful for all the wonderful relationships.

Words can’t describe the endless gratitude we have for this community! We have been so blessed here from our beginnings, through menu changes, through the pandemic, to this final letter. Thank you all.

Restaurants need a constant revenue to stay open. Sadly we closed the original location because our revenue was down more than 65% from last year!

Our final plea as we say our goodbyes, please support locally owned businesses. For every $1 spent at a locally owned and operated small business, $.70 stays in the community! These are our wives, our husbands, and our kids, who work hard in our community so we don’t have to live in a world with only McDonalds and big box stores.

SUPPORT LOCAL!

I’m sad when I think about restaurants I’ve written about that are gone — The Oaks in Ogden Canyon. Nino Viejo at Station Park in Farmington. Tortilla Southwest Union Grill, also at Station Park. Lovin’ Cup Cafe in Huntsville, to name a few. It’s always been challenging to run a restaurant, and the past couple of years have made it even harder.

And yet, I look around and see more restaurants opening. How many of them will close within the year? We’ll see what the future holds.
