Creminelli Fine Meats is giving away $20,000 in restaurant gift cards to help keep independently owned restaurants in business during the pandemic.

The Salt Lake City-based company, owned by Cristiano Creminelli, is calling its gift card giveaway “For the Love of Food.”

Creminelli purchased $10,000 in gift cards to Salt Lake City restaurants that include: Pizza Nono, Feldman’s Deli, Spice Kitchen, Tony Caputo’s Market & Deli, Carmine’s, Bento Truck, SLC Eatery, Honest Eatery, Freshies Lobster, and Les Madeleines.

The gift cards are being given away in $100 denominations, through random Facebook prize drawings over the next two weeks. To enter Creminelli’s For the Love of Food gift card Giveback, visit www.creminellicontest.com.

Creminelli is also giving away gift cards for New Orleans and New York City restaurants, for a total donation of $20,000.

A few years ago, I was able to take a tour of Creminelli’s plant, based near the Salt Lake International airport. And, I met the owner Cristiano Creminelli, whose family was making salami in the foothills of the Italian Alps since the 1600s. His salumieri expertise was handed down from father-to-son all these years in his home town of Biella, where the dry mountain air is great for curing salami.

When he visited Utah during the Winter Olympics in 2001, he noticed Utah had a similar climate, and began thinking of relocating to Utah. In 2007, he founded Creminelli Fine Meats in Salt Lake City, using the basement of Caputo’s Market & Deli for his curing cells.  Soon he was winning awards and getting rave reviews. The expanded to a larger facility in Springville, and then to an even bigger place in the International Center near the Salt Lake International Airport. His production has grown from 200 pounds of salami every four weeks to 90,000 pounds per week.

With restaurants forced to close their doors during the pandemic, Creminelli wanted to do something to support them. Buying up $20,000 in gift cards is a pretty good way to do it!

And if you win, I hope you’ll take me along to Freshie’s Lobster with you!
