Log Haven Restaurant Owner Named to Hall of Fame
The Utah Restaurant Association recently inducted the first woman into its Hall of Fame. The URA awarded Margo Provost, owner/operator of Log Haven Restaurant, their most distinguished honor at its annual meeting and awards dinner.
Margo Provost was honored for her ground breaking work for entrepreneurial women to be recognized in the restaurant industry. Quoted in a press release, Provost pointed out that traditionally feminine nurturing and collaborative management styles can be immensely successful in business.
“The restaurant industry provides us the rare opportunity to not only nurture our employees, and our local industry”, said Provost, as she accepted her award. “It allows us to nourish people. And that has always been the goal at Log Haven, to nurture and nourish.”
Provost is also committed to nurturing the next generation of restaurateurs. She and URA President Melva Sine have cultivated the Utah chapter of the ProStart program, a nationwide, two-year high school program that unites the classroom and industry to develop tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice leaders.
“What is truly inspiring about an event such as this,” explained Sine, “is that it unites this generation of industry leaders and professionals with the future generation and ignites the passion of these young people. These students find true heroes and mentors from within the industry.”
The Hall of Fame recognition is added to a long list of accomplishments in Provost’s distinguished career. Working Woman Magazine awarded Margo top honors in three categories including: Best Employer, Best Turnaround, and Overall Excellence. Margo was named Entrepreneur of the Year by both Ernst & Young and Merrill-Lynch, and was awarded the 2001 Pacesetter Award from the Women’s Roundtable in the Food Industry. Of equal note, Margo is the only restaurateur in the U.S. to receive the prestigious Avon Woman of Enterprise Award (2000). She has also received the YWCA Outstanding Achievement Award (2008) and the Athena Award (2008) and was honored with the Governor’s Culinary Artist Medal (2009).
