Davis County Dutch Oven Cook-Off
Yesterday I covered the Davis County Fair’s Dutch Oven Cook-Off on Aug. 16 for my upcoming Standard-Examiner column. The winning team was BJ and Liz Redford of Layton. The Redfords’ winning dishes were Mushroom Bacon Stuffed Beef Tenderloin, Cheesy Bacon Ranch Pinwheel Bread and Triple Threat Berry Pie. I’ll be running interviews with the teams, as well as the Redfords’ fabulous bread recipe in my Standard-Examiner column on Wednesday.
Second place went to father-daughter team David Jones and Dana Hancock, with a Santa Maria Tri-tip Roast in Pastry, Cherry Berry Cheese Pie, and Braided Hot Pepper Mexican Cheese Bread.
Third place winners were Steve & Jody Knecht, who made Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf Surprise, Maple Cake and Parmesan Dill Rolls.
From what I saw and tasted, I thought that all the teams were a notch or two above “rookie” level, cooking dishes with a high degree of difficulty.
Here are some photos from the event:
