Kaysville Baker Open For Business
There’s a new bakeshop in town, called The Cookbook Baker. Owner Laura Lee Miller works out of her Kaysville home kitchen and takes orders on Instagram at the.cookbook.baker, and on Facebook at The Cookbook Baker, where you can see drool-worthy photos of her cookies, bars and delectable bites.
Miller has been baking all her life. Her grandmother was a chef at a café, and she learned the art of baking alongside her grandmother and mother.
“Baking brings me joy,” said Miller. “I believe baking and cooking are a very generous art. When we bake, we can show love for others through sharing a little bit of ourselves and nourishing and lifting others through food.”
She already found herself constantly baking platters of treats for people and events. “So I decided to make some money at it. I have baked my whole life trying to perfect my baked goods, and I love to share them with others.”
What sets her treats apart from mass-produced baked goods? “I make everything in my home and use only the best ingredients,” said Miller. “I can custom-bake what people want. I also assemble platters and will organize a desert table for customers upon request. I can also put together treat boxes for special occasions that can be ordered ahead of time.”
Her signature cookies are “Toffee Chocolate Chip, my Southern Cookie and my Sparkling Sugar Cookie,” she said. “My Pumpkin Muffins and Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins are also very popular. Each season I try and come up with new items such as my Peppermint Bark Cookie and Ginger Caramel Cookie that I made during the Christmas season.”
Currently, she’s doing a lot of her Valentine’s Day treats, including Glazed Sugar Cookies.
Her personal favorite is her Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies. “I spent years experimenting to come up with the perfect chocolate chip cookie, I guess that’s why it is my favorite,” Miller said. “I’ve just started experimenting with babka bread which is also becoming a fast favorite!”
Miller makes two sizes of cookies – small ($1.90 each) and classic, $3 each. Muffins are $2.50 each and bar cookies are sold by the platter at $49 per platter. There’s a price break for larger quantities.
She will deliver her goodies, or you can pick them up at her home.
How did she come up with the name of her business?
“I love, love, love cookbooks and have collected them over the years,” said Miller. “I read them like novels. I find many of my recipes in my cookbooks and then tweak them to make them my own. I have always wanted to have a storefront where I sell only cookbooks and baked items that highlight food from various cookbooks. I wanted to name it The Cookbook Bakery, that is where I got the name of The Cookbook Baker.”
Her storefront idea will have to wait. But meanwhile, she’s taking orders on Instagram at the.cookbook.baker, and on Facebook, The Cookbook Baker. You can also contact her at 801-628-8839, or by email at cookbookbaker@gmail.com.
