Cookbook Giveaway: The Southern Slow Cooker
This week’s cookbook giveaway is “The Southern Slow Cooker,” by Kendra Bailey Morris (Ten Speed Press, $19.99). In order to enter the drawing for a free copy, you just have to leave a comment on this blog post.
You don’t have to be Southern to enjoy this book with lots of comfort food dishes. Chapters include:
Soulful Soups, Stews and Chilis – such as South of the Mason-Dixon Manhattan Clam Chowder, which gets spiced up with a can of Ro-Tel diced tomatoes and chiles.
Low and Slow Meats – such as Carolina Style Pork Barbecue Sandwiches and Pork Ribs with Raspberry Sorghum BBQ Sauce.
Vegetables and Sides – such as Kale with Ham Hocks
Desserts and Sweets – such as Gingersnap Peach Upside-Down Cake
Southern Odds and Ends – such as Apple Butter and Peach Mango Jam.
Some of the baked recipes, such as cornbread and biscuits, aren’t cooked in a Crock-pot, but they’re Southern classics. And you can make them while the rest of your meal is simmering away.
The soft-cover book has lots of beautiful photos. If you think that Southern food only involves deep-frying, think again.
I’m giving away a copy of “The Southern Slow Cooker,” and you can enter the drawing by leaving a comment at the end of this post — share what your favorite cookbook is, or what you love most about trying new recipes, or cooking in general. You don’t need to leave your full name, but you’ll need an identifier besides Anonymous.
On Friday (Feb. 8) at 8 p.m., I will go through the comments and draw out one of the names from a hat. I will post the winning name on this blog and on Facebook. You will need email me your snail mail address so I can send you the book.
