Mesquite BBQ Championships on Labor Day Weekend

The 5th Annual Smokin’ in Mesquite BBQ Championships will be held Labor Day weekend, August 30 – September 1 at The CasaBlanca Resort & Casino.  This Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned event has one of the biggest purses on the BBQ competition circuit with $40,000 in guaranteed prize money. This year 50 top competition teams from all over the United States are expected and will battle it out in four categories – chicken, ribs, park and brisket and all will be vying for the Smokin’ in Mesquite BBQ Championship title.

Championship weekend starts off with Friday, August 30, 6 p.m. with a KCBS Judging Class.  If anyone has ever wanted to learn how to be a KCBS BBQ judge, here is your golden opportunity.   Openings are still available for the class. Pre-registration is required at www.mesquitebbqchampionship.com.  The cost is $50 for KCBS members and $85 for non-KCBS members.  Don’t wait to reserve your place as the class is always a sell-out.

On Saturday, August 31BBQ masters will be cooking all day. The Event Pavilion will be open to the public from 11am – 7pm and will feature live DJ, and big screens showing all the action of college football’s opening weekend. In fact, for our BYU fans – we will feature BYU’s opening game against the University of Virginia at 12:30 pm.

At 3 pm, the rib-off competition commences. Spectators and fans are invited to sample the ribs exquisitely prepared by the distinguished competitors.  There are 3 rib samples for $5, while supplies last.

The Casapoolooza concert series/party has the  classic rock cover band YELLOW BRICK ROAD in a summer finale concert on Saturday night. You must be 21 or over to attend the Casapoolooza.

Rise, shine and repeat on Sunday as the Smokin’ in Mesquite Barbecue Championship weekend continues.  The Event Pavilion once again opens at 11am, and BBQ aficionados will have the chance to sample the best – and vote for their favorite – this time in the pulled pork category, for $5.

All of the BBQ championship awards will be presented at 6pm in the CasaBlanca Events Pavilion. In addition to the Smokin’ in Mesquite winners, the Nevada State Champion will be crowned.  Teams with the highest combined points will receive $3,000 each and the title of Nevada State Champion.

The Smokin’ in Mesquite BBQ Championships has been honored to once again be an automatic qualifier for the World Food Championships (WFC) November 7-10.  With $300,000 in prize money, the WFC brings together the winners from the largest and most prestigious food competitions in the world.  Visit www.WorldFoodChampionships.com to learn more about this event.
