COOKING CLASSES AT THE CRANE HOUSE

With food costs rising, it’s a great time to bush up on your cooking skills.
You can save a lot of money by preparing meals instead of using convenience products or eating out.
Also, home canning has enjoyed a surge of popularity, along with gardening. If you know how to do it safely, and have access to free or cheap produce, you can also save some money here.

The Crane House in Riverton (1640 W. 13200 South) has begun offering both cooking and home canning classes. The cooking sessions are taught by chef Shawn Bucher, author of “First Timers Cookbook,” and Nancy Miles, author of the “In Good Taste” cookbook.
The Crane House is a beautiful setting for receptions, corporate events, parties and so on. The classes make a nice addition.

The cooking classes start at 7 p.m. The first class is $35, which includes an autographed copy of both “First Timers Cookbook” and “In Good Taste.” You also get to sample the food that’s been prepared. Cost for repeat attendance is $15.

When I was at the Deseret News, I did stories on both of these books, so you can learn more about the authors and their books at
