LAYTON’S TASTE OF THE TOWN
t has become tradition for Davis County restaurants to set up booths at Layton Commons Park during Pioneer Day celebrations so residents can sample flavors of many different kinds.
Servings come in smaller portions so attendees can try a variety of local foods. “Tastes” range in price from 1-4 tickets, which can be purchased at the event, 12 for $10 or $1 each.
More than a dozen vendors will sell their most popular menu items in the park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday while the band Red Shot Pony from Syracuse performs hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.
Angie Osguthorpe, the Davis Chamber of Commerce’s director of sales and events, said the chamber puts on the Taste of the Town each year to please both businesses and residents.
“We showcase a lot of local restaurants in a fun setting,” she said.
Vendors like Menchies will cool customers down with frozen yogurt and an assortment of toppings while Mimi’s Café provides a light lunch of blue cheese walnut salad, homemade muffins and lemonade.
Rooster’s and Davis Hospital, two regulars at the annual Taste of the Town, join newcomers like Moon Dog’s Café and Big Sai Hawiian BBQ this year.
NYPD Pizzeria is bringing its Zeppoles, an Italian-inspired treat reminiscent of doughnut holes sprinkled with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar, and Zeppe’s is sampling its Italian water ice.
For the hungry crowd, Boston’s is selling teriyaki chicken and beef bowls and Corbin’s is dishing up Philly sandwiches and spinach and artichoke dip.
With the selection, there is sure to be something for even the pickiest of eaters.
