FOOD NETWORK’S GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE FEATURES SALT LAKE TRUCKS

A couple of months ago the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” came to Salt Lake City.  That episode will air Aug. 21, so you can see  local food trucks such as Chow Truck, Torta Truck and Frida Bistro and some familiar Utah streets and landmarks.

Here’s the Food Network’s description of the episode, called  “A Pinch of Salt Lake City:”
“Seven remaining teams roll into Salt Lake City, and Tyler immediately explains the Truck Stop Challenge: the teams must create an original sausage dish with the ingredients available, but the sausage is missing. The trucks head to world renowned Creminelli Fine Meats and create three customized links of sausage in hopes to impress guest judge chef Ryan Lowder and add cash towards their final tally. The Speed Bump adds another game-changing twist as Tyler orders the teams to move the trucks to a new location, no matter how many customers are still waiting.”

For those who are wondering about the “guest judge,” Ryan Lowder is the chef and owner of the Copper Onion restaurant, located next to the Broadway Theater on 3rd South. A Utah native, Lowder made a name for himself in the New York City restaurant scene before opening the Copper Onion two years ago.
“The Great Food Truck Race,” now in its second season, features eight food trucks from around the country battling for a $100,000 grand prize. The trucks spend a wild weekend in  different host cities selling specialties from their mobile kitchens. As usual with reality series, there are extreme challenges, and in this case it’s things like  butchering their own meat or foraging for wild mushrooms.
The trucks in the competition includes Café Con Leche (Los Angeles), Devilicious (San Diego), Hodge Podge (Cleveland), Korilla BBQ (New York), The Lime Truck (Irvine, Calif.), Roxy’s Grilled Cheese (Boston), Seabirds (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Sky’s Gourmet Tacos (Los Angeles).
