If it’s been awhile since you’ve been to Rodizio Grill, this summer is a good  time to go.  The Brazilian Steakhouse is doing a cross-cultural mash-up called the Rodizio Americano BBQ Fest. Traditional American barbecue items, such as BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken and Smoked BBQ brisket will be served along with the usual all-you-care-to-eat Brazilian menu from July 1 to Labor Day at all of its locations.

To help pay your tab, I’m giving away three “Rodizio Bucks” certificates. Each is good for $10 off on the price of two dinners (which is $26.99). In order to win a certificate, just leave a comment at the end of this post.

Although Rodizio Grill's unlimited meat offerings are a Paleo Dieter's dream, the glazed pineapple is a big favorite.

“As a child having grown up in Brazil, I lived for summer; it was a time that I could spend playing with my friends and laughing with family…so many of these fond memories took place while we were grilling in the backyard,” said Ivan Utrera, founder of Rodizio Grill, was quoted in a company press release. “Rodizio Americano BBQ Fest is an embodiment of these memories, bringing together both the Brazilian and American favorites of the backyard BBQ.”

You might assume Rodizio Grill is a couple of Utah restaurants, but actually, the company website lists 16 locations around the country, and it continues to grow.

It was founded in Denver in 1995 by Ivan Utrera, who grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil and earned an MBA at Brigham Young University.

His goal was to introduce Americans to that  traditional “churrasco”  style of dining from southern Brazil: a parade of gauchos holding three-foot skewers of meat grilled over an open fire and carved tableside, accompanied with a salad bar and side dishes.

It is known as the first authentic Brazilian steakhouse in the United States.  Its menu offers unlimited Brazilian appetizers, over 30 gourmet salads, and rotisserie grilled meats and grilled items, carved tableside by Rodizio “gauchos.”

Rodizio Grill seems to be a great place for Paleo dieters — lots of meat!  Last week my husband and I watched a guy at a table near us polish off plate after plate of steak, chicken, pork, sausages…and was STILL asking for more! It was kind of incredible.

The menu is also 95 percent gluten-free, including the flavorful cheese rolls.

Rodizio Grill also has some interesting desserts such as a Key Lime Pie, cheesecake, creme brulee and flan.

This may give away my age, but I attended the opening night when Rodizio Grill opened at Trolley Square, in January of 1999.  I guess you could say we’ve both come a long way, baby.

Again, to win a discount certificate that gives you $10 off the price of two dinners, just leave a comment about Rodizio Grill at the end of this post. On Friday I will draw out three winners and send you an email (I’ll also post winners on this blog). You can send me your snail-mail address and I’ll put the certificate in the mail.
