Great Salt Lake Chili Affair Aids the Homeless

14. QUICK TAILGATE CHILIThe Great Salt Lake Chili Affair is one of the hottest events of the year, spicing up the dining scene while helping The Road Home combat homelessness.
The 2014 Chili Affair takes place Wednesday, October 1from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at The Salt
Palace Convention Center,  Exhibit Hall E.

Tickets are $42 per person, and include a variety of different chilis, salads, breads and desserts made by some of Utah’s most popular restaurants. Live entertainment will be provided by the Green Grapes Band, The BBoy Federation, Utah Urban Dance Organization, Disc Connection Inc., and Elias “Lefty” Caress.
A table of 8 can be reserved for $300,and children age 12 and under get in FREE.

After sampling all the different types of chili, people are can vote for their favorite chili.
Celebrity judges include District Attorney Sim Gill; Karli Bird, Miss Draper 2014; Lauren
Kirton, Mrs. Utah United States; Lizzy Palmatier, Miss Sandy 2014; Mayor Ben McAdams, Mayor JoAnn B. Seghini, and more.
The silent auction offers items ranging from a deluxe children’s playhouse, to
condo stays at La Costa, and airline ticket vouchers.
The supervised children’s area is filled with bounce houses, face painters, games, a petting zoo and a mechanical bull.

Everyone can document the night at the free photo booth.

Last year over 2,000 guests helped The Road Home exceed the fundraising goal of $120,000. This money helped The Road Home to provide 349,111 shelter nights to 7,082 people, including 3,810 single men, 997 single women, and 381 families consisting of 1,348 children and 1,047 adults. Each year this fundraiser helps The Road Home in our mission of helping people out of homelessness and back into our community.
The Road Home operates out of The Salt Lake Community Shelter, the largest homeless shelter in Utah.
