If you love to cook, you’l like Love To Cook, the new kitchenware store at Newgate Mall in Ogden. It’s a cook’s paradise —rainbow-hued dishes and bakeware, shiny pans and knives, cake decorating supplies, herbs, spices and flavored oils, and gadgets galore.

There’s a raised demonstration kitchen for classes and demos, with enough room for about 40 seats. A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by the store to do a story for the Standard-Examiner.

“We cater to the home cook who wants to be a little more chef-fy,” owner Randy Anderson told me. “We will bring in some high profile professionals to teach.”

The original Love To Cook store in Logan has been around for many years.  Anderson bought it a year ago and decided to expand to a second location in Ogden.

“It just felt logical to try to grow the business,” said Anderson said. “The mall has been after us for a year, asking us if we wanted to come down.”

Anderson likes to cook as a hobby.

“I have been self-employed entrepreneur for my entire working life,” he said. “I started out in automotive, doing repair work for 25 years. But I’ve always been into food; it’s been my hobby for a long time. The gourmet stuff is fun for me.”

Some may recall another cooking store, For Your Kitchen, that was located at the Newgate Mall. In 2011, Owner Kent Teichert moved his store to Clearfield, three blocks west of I-15 exit 334. On his website, he wrote that he moved because he needed more space for his business, the mall rent was too high, and his location was accessible only from outside the mall, making it hard for customers to find.

The Love To Cook store is inside the mall near the Sears store, so it doesn’t have those accessibility problems.

“The rent is expensive, but it offers some things you can’t get on a stand-alone,” said Anderson. “I’m hoping that people coming shopping or to the movies will come by to see us.  We’re dependent on mall traffic, but we’re a big enough niche that we can get people coming into the mall just for us as a destination.”
